Survey Description
In 2005 and 2007, till and esker sampling was carried out in the Boothia mainland area, Kitikmeot region, central Nunavut. In 2005, 20 esker and 10 till samples were collected in NTS 57A and B for heavy mineral analysis. In 2007, an additional 10 esker and 24 till samples were collected in NTS 57 C and D.
The samples were processed for kimberlite indicator minerals and metamorphosed or magmatic massive sulphide indicator minerals at Overburden Drilling Management Ltd. in Nepean, ON. The samples have been SEM checked at ODM. Mineral chemistry and identification was done at Carleton University using a microprobe.
The data are published in GSC Open Files 5554 (ice-flow history) and 6040 (till geochemistry and KIMs for both the 2005 and 2007 samples).
A subset of the samples was reanalysed in 2020 and the data are published in Canada-Nunavut Geoscience Office Geoscience Data Series GDS2021-002 along with other data from central Nunavut and Baffin Island.
