Survey Description


In September of 2001, 26 regional till samples were collected on the Churchill Diamond Property, which is located approximately 1500 km east of Yellowknife.  These samples were sent for processing at the Saskatchewan Research Council and selected grains were sent to R.L Barnett Geological Consulting Inc., of London, Ontario for SEM analysis.

The 2002 sampling program saw the collection of 57 samples, which were sent to the Saskatchewan Research Council. Selected grains were sent for SEM analysis by R.L Barnett Geological Consulting Inc, of London, Ontario.

The 2003 program saw the collection of 589 samples, which were sent to the Saskatchewan Research Council then forwarded to I and M Morrison Geological Services Ltd, in Delta, British Columbia.

This survey is a joint venture project between Shear Minerals Ltd., Stornoway Diamond Corporation Ltd., and BHP Billiton.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers part of NTS 55O (Chesterfield Inlet), a small portion of the east-central part of 55N (Gibson Lake) and a small portion of the north-central part of 55J (Marble Island), the Churchill Diamond property in northeastern Nunavut.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 60 km northeast of the hamlet of Rankin Inlet.  Baker Lake is located approximately 218 km to the northwest.
