Survey Description
A total of 36 till and stream sediment samples were collected in July and August of 2000 on Baffin Island to follow-up a survey conducted in 1999. The work was conducted by Shawdowood Exploration Services on behalf of Mountain Province Diamonds Inc., and First Strike Diamonds Inc. The property is located approximately 10,000 km north of Iqaluit.
At selected sites approximately 5 kg of till or stream sediments were collected and panned in the field to produce a heavy mineral concentrate weighing only a few grams. These concentrates were checked under a binocular microscope for kimberlitic indicator minerals. The results were used to determine future sample sites.
