Survey Description

In 1976, till samples were collected on three grids in central Nunavut: the UB grid east of Kazan River (NTS 55M/12), the FL grid east of Ferguson Lake (NTS 65I/15) and the SJ grid east of Heninga Lake (65H/16).  Till was collected from mudboils on grids which were positioned to intercept the heads of dispersal trains that might be present.  Traverses that crossed the direction of glacial flow were made at regular intervals or in a random pattern to give even sample coverage of each grid.  The sampling density was between 5 and 100 samples per km 2 and the sampling interval along traverses was between 50 and 200 m.  A description of the work can be found in Prospecting in Areas of Glaciated Terrain 1979.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers part of NTS 55M/12 (Kazan Falls), on the UB grid located south of Baker Lake, Nunavut.  It is located about 1 km east of Kazan River and 5 km southeast of Kazan Falls.

  • Covers part of NTS 65I/15 (Uligattalik Hill), the FL grid, on the east shore of Ferguson Lake.  It extends across the lake to the west shore and includes parts of two small islands.

  • Covers part of NTS 65H/16 (Heninga Lake), on the SJ grid located just east of the southern part of Heninga Lake, Nunavut.
