Survey Description

In 1997, several shallow trenches were excavated into the Peddie kimberlite, Lake Timiskaming area, northeastern Ontario.  Glacial sediments (including till) were collected overlying, up-ice and down-ice of the Peddie kimberlite.  Samples of weathered and fresh kimberlite were also collected.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 3775.  Two samples from this survey are included in Open File 4262 for comparison with the samples collected in 1999.

Data Description:

Paper report and diskette of digital data (MS Excel, MS Word).

Quantities Analysed:

<0.063, 0.063-0.25, 0.25-0.5, and 0.5 to 2.0 mm fractions by INAA for 35 elements; by XRF for 20elements.  <0.063 mm fraction by ICP-ES after aqua regia for 23 elements.

Geochem Maps Available:

None.

Other Analyses:

Heavy mineral concentrate for kimberlite indicator minerals and gold grains; pebble lithology.

Sampling Procedure

Eleven pits 2-3 m deep were excavated using a backhoe.
