Survey Description


During the summer of 1981, a soil sampling survey was conducted in the Lac Troïlus area, Quebec.  The area covers 5.5 km2.  Samples from horizon A0 were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 0.01 km2.  Sampling was done in 2 different zones, approximately 7 km apart:

Zone A:  335 samples collected every 50 m.; 87 samples collected around zone A.

Zone B:  120 samples collected every 50 m.

Samples were analyzed for Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Co, Mo, Mn, Ag, As, Bi, Li, Hg, Sn (atomic absorption) and loss on ignition.

The data are published in Open File GM 40087, Department of Energy and Resources, 1983.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 32J/15 (Lac Troilus).  The Lac Troilus area is situated in township 1323, in the Nord-du-Québec region.  It is located 110 km north of Chibougamau, on the south and southeastern shores of Lac Troilus.  It is bounded by latitudes 50°45' and 50°53' and longitudes 74°30' and 74°45'.
