Survey Description


During the summer of 1980, a soil sampling survey was conducted by the company J. Descarreaux and Associates in the River Chibougamau area, Quebec.  Sampling was done by foot and by helicopter.  The area covers 2128 km2.  A total of 900 samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 2.4 km2.  Samples were collected from horizon Ah, Oh or H.  These samples were analysed for Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Co, Mn, Ag, Mo, Sn, Li, As, Hg, Fe et U.

The data are published in Open File DP-869, Department of Energy and Resources, 1982.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 32G/13 (Lac Inconnu), /14 (Lac des Orignaux). The Rivière Chibougamau area is situated in the Nord-du-Québec region. Its center is located 75 km west of Chapais. It is bounded by latitudes 49°45' and 50° and longitudes 75° and 76°.
