Survey Description

Between 1972 and 1973, a stream sediment sampling survey was conducted in 212 gravel pits, in the Abitibi area, Quebec.  The area covers 63000 km2. A total of 6000 samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 10.5 km2 and analysed for mercury.  The average size of samples is approximately 25 cm.  Approximately 30 samples per gravel pit were collected using criteria for a good representation of bedrock lithologies.

The data are published in Open File DPV-492, Department of Natural Resources, 1977.  This survey is part of a compilation published in 1979, DPV-608.
