Survey Description

In 2015 and 2016, soil and till samples were collected in Drury and Dennison Townships, City of Greater Sudbury, Ontario:

Sample Type Number of Samples Sampling Depth Sample Size
humus 113 a few cm 500 ml
B-horizon soil 96 10s of cm 2-3 kg
till 118 >50 cm up to 2 m

2-3 kg geochem

10-12 kg HMC

The three sample types were collected at each site unless there was a lack of humus development, or a lack of till at the site.  Samples were collected at a density of approximately 1 sample per 2 km2, but higher-density soil sampling was completed over and down ice of known Ni–Cu–PGE mineralization.

Details of the survey are published in Ontario Geological Survey Open File Report OFR6342 and the data are published in OGS Miscellaneous Release Data MRD359.
