Survey Description


Orientation surveys were carried out in the Werner Lake, Separation Lake, Helder Lake and Selwyn Lake areas in northwestern Ontario.  Regional sampling was carried out over the entire area.  B-horizon soil was collected in 1992 and humus, B-horizon soil and till were collected in 1993 and 1994.  The data are published in Ontario Geological Survey Open File Report 5939.

Kimberlite indicator mineral data are published in Ontario Geological Survey Open File Report 5934.

Data Description:

Paper report; digital data released as Ontario Geological Survey MRD-21 (Miscellaneous Release-Data 21).

Quantities Analysed:

<0.063 mm fraction of till by INAA for 33 elements and by ICP-AES for 33 elements and for humus by INAA for 27 elements.

Geochem Maps Available:

None.

Other Analyses:

<2.0 mm heavy mineral concentrate; pebble counts.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 52L/7 (Umfreville Lake) and 52L/8 (Separation Lake), the eastern third of NTS 52L/6 (Ryerson Lake) and part of the northern thirds of NTS 52L/2 (Whitedog Lake) and 52L/1 (Lount Lake) in northwestern Ontario.  It is bounded to the west by the Manitoba-Ontario border.
