Survey Description


Till and humus samples were collected in 1998 in the eastern part of the Shebandowan Greenstone Belt, northwestern Ontario.  The data are published in Ontario Geological Survey Open File Report 5993.

Data Description:

Paper report with selected elements in data lists; complete digital data set released as MRD-44 (Miscellaneous Release-Data 44).

Quantities Analysed:

<0.063 mm fraction of till by INAA for 35 elements; by ICP-OES after aqua regia digestion for 25 elements.  <0.177 mm fraction of humus by INAA; by ICP-OES after aqua regia digestion for base metals.

Geochem Maps Available:

Proportional symbol maps showing dispersal of selected elements.

Other Analyses:

Heavy mineral concentrate for gold grains, kimberlite indicator minerals and metamorphic/magmatic massive sulphide indicator minerals.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 52A/12 (Sunshine) and 52A/5 (Kakabeka Falls) in the eastern part of the Shebandowan greenstone belt, northwestern Ontario.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 65 km from the north shore of Lake Superior.
