Survey Description


Between 1995 and 1997, 69 samples of till, diamicton, gravel and sand were collected on Bathurst Island, Nunavut.  Sixty-five samples (<63 um fraction) were analysed by INAA.  Five gravel samples and one till sample were processed for heavy minerals.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 3714 (Part C).

Paper report.

Quantities Analysed:

<0.063 mm fraction by INAA for 35 elements.

Geochem Maps Available:

Contour maps show dispersal of elements.

Other Analyses:

Grain size; heavy mineral concentrate from 5 samples for kimberlite indicator minerals.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 68G (Graham Moore Bay), 68H (Mcdougall Sound), 69A (Penny Strait), 69B (Helena Island) and 79A (Domett Point) on Bathurst Island, Nunavut.  Bathurst Island is east of Melville Island and northwest of Cornwallis Island.
