Survey Description


During the summer of 2018, 84 rock samples were collected in south-central Newfoundland.  Sampling focused on granitic rocks of various ages and consists of samples of both bedrock and boulders of glacial origin.

The purpose of the sampling was to follow up on till samples that returned anomalously high fluoride values.

The data are published in Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Natural Resources Open File 012A/1802.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 12A/07 (Snowshoe Pond), 12A/08 (Great Burnt Lake) and a very small part of 12A/10 (Lake Ambrose; 1 sample) in central Newfoundland.  The study area is located a few kilometres north and east of Meelpaeg Reservoir and approximately 28 km south of Red Indian Lake.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 12A/09 (Noel Paul’s Brook; 1 sample) in central Newfoundland.  It is located just south of Noel Paul’s Brook and approximately 5.5 km southeast of Tally Pond.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 12A/08 (Great Burnt Lake; 1 sample) in central Newfoundland.  It is located approximately 2 km northeast from the north shore of Crooked Lake.  Great Burnt Lake is 11 km to the south.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 12A/08 (Great Burnt Lake; 1 sample)) in central Newfoundland.  It is located approximately 2 km east of Great Burnt Lake and just west of North Salmon River.
