Survey Description


Twenty-nine samples of outcrop and drill core were collected from the Burin Peninsula and from one area on the Avalon Peninsula.  The samples were collected from 2012 to 2017 in relation to ongoing studies of precious-metal mineralization within the Avalon Zone in Newfoundland.

The data are published in Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Natural Resources Open File NFLD/3364.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers small parts of NTS 2D/01 (Tug Pond) and 2D/08 (Port Blandford, eastern Newfoundland.  It is located just south of the southern part of Clode Sound and north of Andrews Pond.  Part of Thorburn Lake is located in the east central part of the study area.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 1M/16 (Sound Island) in eastern Newfoundland.  It is located approximately 8.5 km northwest of the coast of Bar Haven Island and 22 km north-northeast of the village of Monkstown.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 1M/07 (Baine Harbour) on the northern part of the Burin Peninsula, Newoufndland. It is located approximately 1 km of the village of Boat Harbour West and just southeast of Highway 210 (Heritage Run).

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 1M/03 (Marystown) on the central part of the Burin Peninsula, Newoufndland.  It is located between Southwest Arm and Garnish Pond. Columbia Drive is located approximately 2 km south of the study area.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 1L/13 (Lamaline) on the southern part of the Burin Peninsula, Newoufndland.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 2 km east of Great Lawn Harbour and 2.3 km north of Duck Cove.

  • Covers a small part of NTS 1N/07 (Bay Bulls) on the Avalon Peninsula, Newfoundland.  It is located approximately 3 km southeast of the town of Conception Bay South.  The Trans-Canada Highway crosses the centre of the study area.
