Survey Description


Between 2007 and 2015, approximately 850 rock samples were collected throughout the Central Mineral Belt of Labrador.  Samples were collected from both outcrops and drill core as part of mineral deposit studies to investigate uranium mineralization.

The data are published in Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Natural Resources Open File LAB/10.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers the central part of NTS 13K (Snegamook Lake) in the area southeast of Snegamook Lake, central Labrador.  The study area lies between Snegamook Lake and Nipishish Lake.

  • Covers part of NTS 13J (Rigolet) and small parts of 13K (Snegamook Lake) and 13O (Makkovik) in east-central Labrador.  The community of Makkovik is found in the northern part of the study area and the town of Postville is located just west of the northern part of the study area.  It is bounded to the northeast by the Labrador Sea.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 13K (Snegamook Lake; 3 samples) near Stomach Lake (unofficial name) in central Labrador.  It is located approximately 80 km west of the town of Postville.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 13O (Makkovik; 9 samples) in east-central Labrador.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 52 km northwest of the community of Makkovik and 30 km southeast of Hopedale.
