Survey Description


In 2017 and 2018, till samples were collected in the Silver Mountain map sheet, northwestern Newfoundland.

In total, 88 B-, C- or BC- horizon till samples were collected.  Eleven of the samples collected in 2018 were to follow up high gold results from the 2017 sampling.  At each site, a 2-3 kg sample was collected for geochemistry and a sample weighing 10-15 kg was collected for heavy mineral processing.

The geochemical data are published in Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Industry, Energy and Technology Open File 12H/11/2330.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers part of NTS 12H/11 (Silver Mountain) in northwestern Newfoundland.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 22 km west-northwest of the town of Hampden and 20 km north-northeast of Adies Pond.  It is bounded to the north by 49.75°N latitude.

  • Covers a small part of NTS 12H/11 (Silver Mountain) in northwestern Newfoundland.  It is located approximately 15 km east-southeast of Western Brook Pond.  It is bounded to the southwest by Mattys Pond.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 12H/11 (Silver Mountain; 2 samples) in northwestern Newfoundland.  It is located approximately 14 km west of Pollards Point.
