Survey Description


In 2016 and 2018, 405 till samples were collected in west-central Newfoundland.

Samples (~1 kg) were collected from the C- or BC- soil horizon from hand-dug pits, mudboils, road cuts or ditches.  Along roads, the sampe density was one sample every one linear kilometre and one sample every 4 km2 for helicopter-supported sampling.

The data are published in Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Industry, Energy and Technology Open File 12A/1843.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 12A/05 (Puddle Pond), 12A/11 (Star Lake), small parts of 12A/04 (King George IV Lake), 12A/06 (Victoria Lake), 12A/12 (Little Grand Lake), 12A/14 (Rainy Lake) and a very small part of 12A/13 (Corner Brook) in west central Newfoundland.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 85 km east of the city of Stephenville and 57 km southeast of Corner Brook.  It is located just northwest of Red Indian Lake and Victoria Lake, approximately 13 km southwest of Buchans.
