Survey Description


In 2006 and 2007, till samples were collected on the southern part of the Burin Peninsula, Newfoundland.

Most samples were from the C- or BC- soil horizon and were collected in pits 0.5 m deep or at depths of 0.5-1 m deep in quarries or road cuts.  Sample density was 1 sample per 1 km 2 in areas of good access and 1 sample per 4 km 2 where helicopter support was required.

Samples from this survey were reanalyzed for fluoride and the data are published in a compilation (Open File NFLD/3344) with samples collected from across the province between 1985 and 2017.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 1L/13 (Lamaline), 1L/14 (St. Lawrence), 1M/3 (Marystown), 1M/4 (Grand Bank), 1M/6 (Point Entragee), 1M/7 (Baine Harbour), 1M/10 (Terrenceville) and 1M/11 (Belleoram) on the Burin Peninsula, southern Newfoundland.  It is bounded to the southeast by Placentia Bay.
