Survey Description
In the summer of 2016, till sampling (BC- or C horizon) was carried out in the Great Burnt Lake, Burnt Hill and the northern part of Cold Spring Pond map areas. Supplemental sites were also sampled in other map sheets, for a total of 774 samples:

The purpose of the sampling was to investigate the geochemical signatures and Quaternary geology of the area to assist in ongoing exploration efforts.
The data (including for samples originally collected in 1987-1988) are published in Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Natural Resources, Open File NFLD/3341.
Data for standards and duplicates is published in Open File NFLD/3358.
Samples from this survey were reanalyzed for fluoride and the data are published in a compilation (Open File NFLD/3344) with samples collected from across the province between 1985 and 2017.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

Covers parts of NTS 12A (Red Indian Lake) and 2D (Gander Lake) in central Newfoundland. The centre of the study area is located approximately 98 km southwest of the city of Gander and 60 km south of Bishop’s Falls. The Bay d’Espoir Highway (route 360) runs north-south through the eastern part of the study area.
