Survey Description


In July 2017, till samples were collected as part of a pilot study in the Hopedale Block, central Labrador.  Eight bulk till samples ranging from 16 to 21 kg were collected from hand-dug pits in mudboils.  The samples were processed for heavy minerals and gold.

In July 2018, 47 till samples were collected in the same region based on results from 2017 as well as historical and recent work carried out in the area.  Two samples were collected at each site: 8-20 kg sample for indicator mineral processing and a 3-5 kg sample for geochemical analysis and pebble lithology and counts.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers part of the southern portion of NTS 13M/9 (no title; 1 sample), Hopedale Block, central Labrador.  It is bounded to the south by 55.5°N latitude.

  • Covers parts of NTS 13N/2 (Ugjoktok Bay), 13N/5, /6, /7, /11, /12 (all no title), 13N/9 (Napatalik Island) and /10 (Big Bay), Hopedale Block, central Labrador.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 50 km west of the town of Hopedale and 200 km north-northwest of Lake Melville.
