Survey Description
Approximately 1023 1 kg till samples and 89 other sediment samples were collected in the La Poile River area, southwest Newfoundland in 1985 and 1986. Most of the samples were taken from road cuts and from hand-dug pits at an average depth of 55 cm. Samples were taken from the C-horizon of lodgement and melt-out till, but about 10% are from B- or BC-horizons. Spacing of samples varies across the study area. The data are published in Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Natural Resources Open File NFLD/2871.

Quantities Analysed:
<0.063 mm fraction of till analyzed by AAS for Ag and Rb following a nitric acid digestion; by ICP-ES after HF-HCl-HClO4 for an extensive suite of elements; by INAA for an extensive suite of elements.

Samples from this survey were reanalyzed for fluoride and the data are published in a compilation (Open File NFLD/3344) with samples collected from across the province between 1985 and 2017.

Covers parts of NTS 11O/9 (La Poile), 11O/16 (La Poile River), 11P/13 (Peter Snout) and 12A/4 (King George IV Lake), the La Poile River area, southwest Newfoundland. It is bounded to the south by Cabot Strait.
