Survey Description
In 1997, approximately 850 till samples were collected in the Grand Falls – Mount Peyton area, eastern Newfoundland. Sample spacing was roughly one sample per 2.25 km2 in areas of good access. In areas where helicopter support was required, sample spacing was roughly 1 sample per 4 km2. In total, diamicton was systematically sampled at 807 sites from below the B soil horizon wherever possible (samples were collected mostly from the BC or C-horizon). In addition, till profiles were collected from three backhoe pits, with sampling at 0.5 m vertical intervals. The data are published in Geological Survey of Newfoundland and Labrador Open File NFLD 2664.
Data Description:
Digital.
Quantities Analysed:
<0.063 mm fraction analyzed for Ag by AAS after a HNO3 digestion; for 28 elements by ICP-AES after HCl-HCl04-HF digestion; for 25 elements by INAA.
Geochem Maps Available:
Proportional dot maps showing distribution of elements in till.
Other Analyses:
LOI.
Samples from this survey were reanalyzed for fluoride and the data are published in a compilation (Open File NFLD/3344) with samples collected from across the province between 1985 and 2017.
