Survey Description


In 2020, a till sampling survey was conducted at regional scale along the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg from Manigotagan to Berens River, southeastern Manitoba.  A total of 16 surface-till samples of ~2 kg each were collected with a shovel from the B/C or C-horizon soil in hand-dug pits or from naturally occuring sediment exposures.

The data are published in Manitoba Geological Survey Data Repository Item DRI2021006.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 62P/1 (English Brook) and 62P/8 (Shallow Lake) along the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg, southeastern Manitoba.  The southern end of the study area is approximately 7 km northeast of the community of Manigotagan.  Rice River Road runs north-south through the entire study area.

  • Covers parts of NTS 62P/10 (Pine Dock) and 62P/15 (Princess Harbour) along the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg, southeastern Manitoba.  It extends from Loon Straits in the south, to Princess Harbour in the north.  An unnamed road, possibly an extension of Rice River road, runs north-south through the entire study area.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 63A/2 (Catfish Lake; 1 sample) along the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg, southeastern Manitoba.  It is located approximately 5 km southwest of Catfish Lake, approximately 28 km south-southeast of the community of Berens River and just east of an unnamed road, possibly an extension of Rice River Road.
