Survey Description


In the summer of 2003, the following till samples were collected:

Two samples were collected at each site: an 11 L bulk sample for kimberlite-indicator-mineral (KIM), texture and pebble lithology analyses, and a 1 L sample for geochemical analysis.

Geographic Extent

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers most of NTS 62P (Hecla) in southern Manitoba.  It is bounded to the east by Lake Winnipeg and to the south by 51°N latitude.

  • Covers parts of NTS 64C/14 (Lynn Lake), 64F/3 (Carswell Lake) and 64F/4 (Goldsand Lake) in northwestern Manitoba.  It is bounded to the west by the Saskatchewan- Manitoba border and to the east by the town of Lynn Lake, MB.  It extends along Highway 394.

  • Covers part of NTS 64G/08 (Missi Rapid) in northwestern Manitoba.  It is bounded to the west by Southern Indian Lake.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 39 km northwest of Gauer Lake.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 64G/09 (Hammond Point; 1 sample) in northwestern Manitoba.  It is located on the northern shore of Southern Indian Lake, approximately 25km west-southwest of Moss Lake.

  • Covers part of NTS 64F (Brochet) and 64K (Whiskey Jack Lake) in northwestern Manitoba.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 144 km north of the town of Lynn Lake and 43 km northeast of the northern shore of Reindeer Lake.
