Survey Description

In September 2013 and during 1 week in August 2014, 235 till samples of ~2 kg each were collected at a regional scale within an area of approximately 7500 km 2 in the Knife River-Churchill River area, northeastern Manitoba.  The samples were collected with a shovel between 20 and 70 cm depth from the B, B/C or C soil horizon in hand-dug pits.  Samples were collected from mudboils where possible.

The data are published in Manitoba Geological Survey Geoscientific Paper GP2019-1.

The data are also part of two compilations in Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development open files OF2020-2 and OF2020-3.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 54L (Churchill) and 64I (Shethanei Lake) and small parts of 54E (Herchmer) and 64J (Tadoule Lake) in the North Knife River-Churchill River area, northeastern Manitoba.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 85 km southwest of the western shore of Hudson Bay and 185 km northeast of Southern Indian Lake.  North Knife, Bradshaw, Lofthouse and Mack lakes are found within the study area.
