Survey Description


During the summers of 1989 (NTS 35G, J), 1990 (NTS 25E, 35H, I) and 1991 (NTS 35F, K), till samples were collected on the northern Ungava Peninsula, Quebec.  A total of 267 samples were collected, resulting in an average density of about one sample per 200 km2. Samples were collected at an average depth of about 30 cm in mudboils. More detailed sampling (n=42) was carried out three areas.

The work was carried out for R.-A. Daigneault’s Ph.D. thesis and is also published in Geological Survey of Canada Bulletin 533.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 25E (Kangiqsujuaq), 35F (Kovik Bay), 35G (Lacs Nuvilik), 35H (Cratère du Nouveau-Québec), 35I (Cap de Nouvelle-France), 35J (Salluit) and 35K (Cap Wolstenholme (Saint-Louis)) on the northern Ungava Peninsula, Quebec.  The study area is bounded to the south by 61°N latitude, to the east and north by Hudson Strait and to the west by Hudson Bay.  The villages of Ivujivik, Salluit and Kangiqsujuaq are found within the study area.
