Survey Description
In the summer of 1993, Consorminex Inc. collected 635 till samples in the Lac Surprise region, Chapais-Chibougamau area, west central Quebec. Samples were collected using a shovel from holes or natural cuts. The sampling density was 1 sample/km 2 in the north half of the map sheet and 1 sample/2 km 2 in the south half.
An additional 224 till samples weighing ~3 kg were collected at a density of 1 sample/4 km 2 for the study of heavy minerals.
The data are published in GSC Open File 3285 (till geochemistry) and 3196 (heavy minerals).
Colour geochemical maps are available in Quebec Ministère des Ressources naturelles MB 94-57.

Quantities Analysed:
<0.177 mm and <0.063 mm fractions by ICP-AES after a nitric acid digestion for 35 elements; by INAA for 9 elements; <0.177 mm fraction by AAS after Gagne (1990) procedure for Hg.
Geochem Maps Available:
Proportional dot maps showing regional distribution for most elements in the <0.177 mm and <0.063 mm fractions (OF 3285). Geochemical contour maps of 17 elements are presented in Quebec Ministère des resources naturelles MB 94-57.

Covers NTS 32G/7 (Lac Surprise) in Chapais-Chibougamau area in west central Quebec. Its northern border is located approximately 35 km south of the town of Chapais.
