Survey Description

Till sampling was carried out in 1988 on the western portion of the South Mountain Batholith (SMB), western Nova Scotia.  Samples were collected on a 2 km2 grid from beneath the placon and/or B-horizon zone at an average depth of 1 m.  In most cases till was sampled although ice contact deposits or residuum were locally collected.  Glacial deposits were sampled primarily in road cuts and hand-dug pits.  A compilation of the geochemistry from the entire SMB area can be found in Nova Scotia Department of Mines Open File Report 90-006.

Data Description:

Paper report with data lists.

Quantities Analysed:

<0.063 mm fraction of till by INAA for Ni, Cr, Ba, Th, Sc, AS, Rb, Sb, Ta, U and W; by AAS using partial digestion of HCl-HNO3 (1:3) for Pb, Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn.

Geochem Maps Available:

Trend surface plots and proportional symbol plots for various elements.

Other Analyses:

Clast lithology.
