Survey Description


More than 90 till samples were collected in southwest Nova Scotia in approximately 1979.  The data are published in Nova Scotia Department of Mines and Energy Map 82-01.

Data Description:

Paper map; map margin has data tables keyed to samples located on the map.

Quantities Analysed:

<0.002 mm fraction by AAS after HNO3-HCl (Laforte) digestion for at least 12 elements; by colourimetry after nitric-perchloric acid digestion for As; by fluorometry after hot nitric acid for U; heavy mineral concentrate (0.063-0.300 mm fraction) by colourimetry after a carbonate flux-fusion followed by hot water leach for W and by AAS after ammonium iodide sublimation followed by HCl leach for Sn.

Sample sites with anomalous element levels are indicated on map.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 20P (Shelburne) and 21A (Annapolis Royal) in southwest Nova Scotia.  It is bounded to the south by the Atlantic Ocean.
