These Open Files, which include areas surveyed in the 1978 GSC Open File 560 release for NTS 23G, H, I, J, cover approximately 80 000 km 2 at an average sample density of one sample per 13 km 2.

Lake sediments were analyzed for Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Co, Ag, Mn, As, Mo, Fe, Hg, U, F, Cd, V and loss-on-ignition to estimate organic carbon content. Lake waters were analyzed for U, F and pH.

Each Open File consists of 19 geochemical maps, sample location map and text of field observations, analytical and statistical data.

These files will be placed on Open File for inspection from 1300 h, EDT August 1983 (and equivalent local times) at all Geological Survey of Canada libraries and at the office of the Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy, 95 Bonaventure Avenue, St. John's, Newfoundland.
