National Geochemical Reconnaissance Surveys, Labrador

          These Open Files relate to data acquired under the Canada-Newfoundland co-operative mineral program, 1982-1984, as part of the National Geochemical Reconnaissance Surveys. The program was managed by the Geological Survey of Canada and jointly planned by the Geological Survey of Canada and the Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy.

These Open Files, which include areas surveyed in the 1978 GSC Open File 560 release for NTS 23G, H, I, J, cover approximately 80 000 km 2 at an average sample density of one sample per 13 km 2.

          Lake sediments were analyzed for Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Co, Ag, Mn, As, Mo, Fe, Hg, U, F, Cd, V and loss-on-ignition to estimate organic carbon content. Lake waters were analyzed for U, F and pH.

          Each Open File consists of 19 geochemical maps, sample location map and text of field observations, analytical and statistical data.

          These files will be placed on Open File for inspection from 1300 h, EDT August 1983 (and equivalent local times) at all Geological Survey of Canada libraries and at the office of the Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy, 95 Bonaventure Avenue, St. John's, Newfoundland.

          A limited number of white prints and text will be available for sale at the Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy, St. John's, Newfoundland. White prints and text copies may also be obtained at the user's expense from Campbell Reproductions, 880 Wellington Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1R 6K7.

          The field observations and analytical data in the text from which the maps were prepared are also available in digital form and at the user's expense from the Director, Computer Science Centre, Department of Energy, Mines and Resources, 588 Booth Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0E4.
