Resource Geophysics and Geochemistry Colour Compilation Maps, Nova Scotia
Colour compilation maps at a scale of 1:2 000 000 for gamma ray spectrometric surveys covering spectrometric surveys all of Nova Scotia (O.F. 846) and for lake sediment geochemical surveys covering the Meguma Terrane and adjacent areas (O.F. 847) will be released on May 3rd, 1982. This release has been prepared as a contribution to the Canada-Nova Scotia Co-operative Mineral Program 1981-1984.
Colour contour maps of K, eU eH concentrations, total count in units of radioelement concentration (Ur) and in exposure rate (μR/hr) were compiled from surveys flown in 1976, 1978 and 1979. These surveys were flown with flight line spacing of 5 km, a terrain clearance of 125 m, and line spacing of 5 km, a terrain clearance of 125 m and employed 50 000 cm 3 of sodium iodide detectors. The results of these surveys have previously been released as GSC Geophysics Series Maps or Open Files.
The regional geochemical colour contour maps for Cu, Zn, Pb, Ni, Co, Hg, As, Mo, U, Mn, Fe, Ca, Mg, Loss-on-ignition, and a plot of sample site locations were compiled from surveys undertaken in 1977 and 1978. The surveys were based on the collection and analysis of organic rich centre lake-bottom sediments at an average density of site per 5 km 2 and were undertaken through the 1975-1980 Canada Department of Regional Economic Expansion -- Nova Scotia Mineral Development Agreement. The results of these surveys have previously been released as Open Files by the Nova Scotia Department of Mines and Energy.
Open Files 846 and 847 will be available for inspection at all Geological Survey libraries, and at the library of the Mineral Resources Division of the Nova Scotia Department of Mines and Energy, 1690 Hollis Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Copies of the Open Files may be purchased at the user's expense from: Campbell Reproductions, 880 Wellington St., Ottawa, Ontario, K1R 6K7.
