Lake water and sediment: NEA-IAEA Athabasca Basin-Woolaston Lake Test Area, Saskatchewan (NTS 64L and 74I), by W.B. Coke and C.E. Dunn

This open file presents the results of the detailed surface lake water and centre-lake bottom sediment sampling carried out over a portion of the Athabasca Basin-Wollaston metasedimentary belt during July 1979. Lake water and sediment samples, collected from approximately 500 sites in the 1200 km 2 area, provided an average sample site density of 1 per 2.4 km 2.

Lake waters were analyzed for U, F -, Cl -, PO 3- 4, NO - 3, SO 2- 4, pH and conductivity. Lake sediments were analyzed for U, Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Co, Ag, Mn, As, Mo, Fe and loss-on-ignition (LOI). The analytical data and field observations are presented in the form of two computer listings (waters and sediments) accompanied by a sample location map. A description of the field and analytical techniques along with an interpretation of the geochemistry of the lake water and sediment data (Appicon coloured maps, three dimensional (3D) surface plots, geochemical associations map, and summary statistical data) are included.

This open file is available for viewing at all Geological Survey libraries and at the offices of the Saskatchewan Geological Survey, Saskatchewan Department of Mineral Resources in Regina, Creighton, La Ronge and Uranium City. Copies may be obtained at the user's expense only from Campbell Reproductions, 880 Wellington Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1R 6K7.
