Gold in lake sediments (part of NTS 64D) regional lake sediment geochemical reconnaissance data east-central Saskatchewan

          This file relates to lake sediment geochemical data acquired under the Canada-Saskatchewan Agreement on Mineral Exploration and Development in Northern Saskatchewan. The project was jointly undertaken by the Geological Survey of Canada and the Saskatchewan Geological Survey in 1974. The major part of the data were released on August 5, 1975, as Open File 266. Additional data for mercury and uranium, determined by neutron activation - delayed neutron counting, were released on October 5, 1977, as Open File 488.

          This file contains data for gold in the lake sediments. Gold was determined by fire assay preconcentration followed by instrumental analysis by neutron activation/gamma-ray spectroscopy (Nuclear Activation Services Limited).

          The original 1974 survey covered some 20 000 square miles at an average density of 2 sample per 5 square miles. Archived lake sediment samples were selected from an area of approximately 2400 square miles in NTS 64D and analyzed for gold to appraise the utilization of organic lake-centre sediments in the geochemical exploration for gold in this region of Saskatchewan. A data listing is provided which contains relevant field ata, and in addition to the gold data zinc, copper, lead, nickel, cobalt, silver, manganese, arsenic, molybdenum, iron, mercury, uranium (fluorometric), uranium (delayed neutron counting) and loss-on-ignitiondata from Open Files 266 and 488.

          This open file will be available for viewing from 1300 h EST (and equivalent local times) January 19, 1981 at all Geological Survey libraries.
