National Geochemical Reconnaissance Releases NGR 46-1978, 47-1978 and 48-1978; Regional lake sediment and water geochemical reconnaissance data, central Baffin Island, Northwest Territories, NTS 27B; 37A, 37D and parts of 27C
These files relate to data acquired under the Federal Uranium Reconnaissance Program by the Geological Survey of Canada.
The contracts for field work, sample preparation and sample analysis were let, supervised and monitored by the Resource Geochemistry Subdivision, Geological Survey of Canada.
The 1978 survey covers approximately 25 900 km 2 (10 000 mi 2) at an average sample density of one sample per 13 km 2 (5 mi 2). Lake sediments were analyzed for U, Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Co, Ag, Mn, Fe, Mo and As and loss-on-ignition to estimate organic carbon content. Lake waters were analyzed for U, F and pH.
Each open file consists of 15 geochemical maps, sample location map and a text of field observations and analytical and statistical data. The total area is divided up into three open files.
The release date and time for these open files will be announced in a future issue of the GSC's Monthly Information Circular. These files will be placed on Open File for inspection at all Geological Survey of Canada libraries, at the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario Geological Survey, Mines Library, 8th Floor, 77 Grenville Street, Toronto, Ontario and at the office of the Resident Geologist, Dept. of Indian and Northern Affairs, Box 1500, Bellanca Building, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, X1A 2R3.
A limited number of white prints and text will be available for sale at the Yellowknife office of the Resident Geologist. White print and text copies may also be obtained at the user's expense from Campbell Reproductions, 880 Wellington Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1R 6K7. The field observations and analytical data in the text from which the maps were prepared are also available in a digital form at the user's expense from the Director, Computer Science Centre, Dept. of Energy, Mines and Resources, 588 Booth Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0E4.
