OPEN FILES 561 AND 562

National Geochemical Reconnaissance Releases NGR 41-1978 and 42-1978; Regional stream sediment and water geochemical reconnaissance data, Northern British Columbia, NTS 104 and P

These files relate to data acquired under the Federal-Provincial Uranium Reconnaissance Program, the provincial part being financed through the Canada-British Columbia Agreement on a Uranium Reconnaissance Program.

The project was jointly planned by the Geological Survey of Canada and the British Columbia of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. The contracts for field work, sample preparation and sample analysis were let, supervised and monitored by the Resource Geochemistry Subdivision, Geological Survey of Canada.

The 1978 survey covers approximately 25 000 km 2 (9600 mi 2) at an average sample density of one sample per 13 km 2 (5 mi 2). Stream sediments were analyzed for U, Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Co, Ag, Mn, Fe, Mo and W. Stream waters were analyzed for F and pH. In 104, lake sediments and waters were collected at 82 sites and analyzed as above with addition of LOI determinations of lake sediments.

Each open file consists of 13 geochemical maps, sample location map and a text of field observations and analytical and statistical data. The total area is divided up into two open files.

These files will be placed on Open File for inspection from 1:00 p.m. EDT, June 8, 1979 (and equivalent local times) at all Geological Survey of Canada libraries; at the British Columbia Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, Room 418, Douglas Building, Victoria, Gold Commissioner's Office, Vancouver, the British Columbia Forest Service Office, Lower Post, B.C.; and at the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario Geological Survey, Mines Library, 8th Floor, 77 Grenville Street, Toronto, Ontario.

A limited number of white prints and text will be available for sale at Victoria, Vancouver and Lower Post, British Columbia. White print and text copies may also be obtained at the user's expense from Campbell Reproductions, 880 Wellington Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1R 6K7. The field observations and analytical data in the text from which the maps were prepared are also available in a digital form at the user's expense from the Director, Computer Science Centre, Dept. of Energy, Mines and Resources, 588 Booth Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0E4.
