National Geochemical Reconnaissance releases NGR 34-1978 and 35-1978; Regional lake sediment and water geochemical reconnaissance data, Ontario Eastern Shore, Lake Superior, NTS 41K, N and 42C, F(S/2)
These files relate to data acquired under the Federal-Provincial Uranium Reconnaissance Program, the provincial part being financed through the Canada-Ontario Agreement on a Uranium Reconnaissance Program.
The project was jointly planned by the Geological Survey of Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. The contracts for field work, sample preparation and sample analysis were let, supervised and monitored by the Resource Geochemistry Subdivision, Geological Survey of Canada.
The 1978 survey covers approximately 33 700 km 2 (13 000 km 2) at an average sample density of one sample per 13 km 2 (5 mi 2). Lake sediments were analyzed for U, Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Co, Ag, Mn, Fe, Mo, and As and loss-on-ignition to estimate organic carbon content. Lake waters were analyzed for U, Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Co, Ag, Mn, Fe, Mo, and As and loss-on-ignition to estimate organic carbon content. Lake waters were analyzed for U, F and pH.
Each open file consists of 15 geochemical maps, sample location map and a text of field observations and analytical and statistical data. The total area is divided up into two open files.
These files will be placed on Open File for inspection from 1:00 p.m. EDT, May 18, 1979 (and equivalent local times) at all Geological Survey of Canada libraries; at the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario Geological Survey, Mines Library, 8th Floor, 77 Grenville Street, Toronto, Ontario; and at the offices of the Regional Geologists in Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie.
A limited number of white prints and text will be available for sale at the Toronto Public Service Centre, 6th Floor, Whitney Block, Queen's Park, Toronto, Ontario and the offices of the Regional Geologists. White print and text copies may also be obtained at the user's expense from Campbell Reproduction, 880 Wellington Stret, Ottaw, Ontario, K1R 6K7. The field observations and analytical data in the text from which the maps were prepared are also available in a digital form at the user's expense from the Director, Computer Science Centre, Dept. of Energy, Mines and Resources, 588 Booth Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0E4.
