Uranium Reconnaissance Program
National Geochemical Reconnaissance releases NGR 20-1977, 21-1977, 22-1977, 23-1977 and 24-1977
Regional lake sediment and water geochemical reconnaissance data, Eastern Labrador, (NTS 13B, F, G, H, I W/2, J and O S/2 and 3 E)
These files relate to data acquired under the Federal-Provincial Uranium Reconnaissance Program, the provincial part being financed through the Canada-Newfoundland Mineral Development Subsidiary Agreement (1976-1982).
The project was jointly planned by the Geological Survey of Canada and the Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy. The contracts for field work, sample preparation and sample analysis were let, supervised and monitored by the Geochemistry Section, Geological Survey of Canada.
The survey covers approximately 73,000 km2 (28,200 mi2) at an average sample density of one sample per 13 km2 (5 mi2). Lake sediments were analyzed for U, Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Co, Ag, Mn, Fe, Mo, Hg, As, F and loss-on-ignition to estimate organic carbon content. Lake waters were analyzed for U, F and pH.
Each open file consists of 14 geochemical maps, sample location map and a text of field observations and analytical and statistical data. The toal area is divided up into five open files.
These files will be placed on Open FIle for inspection o Monday, May 29, 1978 at 9:00 a.m. EDT (and equivalent local times) at the Ottawa and Dartmouth libraries of the Geological Survey of Canada, at the office of the Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy, St. John's, Newfoundland and at the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Public Service Centre, 6th Floor, Whitney Block, Queen's Park, Toronto, Ontario.
A limited number of white prints and text will be available for sale at the Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy, 95 Bonaventure Street, St. John's, Newfoundland, A1C 5T7. White print and text copies may also be obtained at the user's expense from The Director, Computer Science Centre, Department of Energy, Mines and Resources, 588 Booth Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0E8.
