OPEN FILE 488
Regional Lake Sediment Geochemical Reconnaissance Data, East-Central Saskatchewan (NTS 63M, 64D and parts of 63K, L, N; 73I, O, P and 74A)
This file relates to data acquired under the Canada-Saskatchewan Agreement on Mineral Exploration and Development in Northern Saskatchewan. The project was jointly undertaken by the Geological Survey and the Saskatchewan Geological Survey in 1974. The major part of the data were released on August 5, 1975 as Open File 266.
This file contains data and maps for uranium and mercury in lake sediments. The uranium was determined by delayed neutron counting (AECL, Commercial Products Div.), in contrast to the original uranium data which were determined by fluorometry. The mercury analyses were carried out using flameless atomic absorption (Barringer Research Ltd.).
The survey covers some 20,000 sq. miles at an average sample density of 1 sample per 5 sq. miles. The area is covered by 4 map sheets leading to 8 geochemical maps and 4 sample location maps. In conjunction with the geochemical maps a data listing is provided which contains the relevant field data, and in addition to the uranium and mercury data the original uranium (fluorometric), manganese, iron and loss-on-ignition data.
The file will be placed on Open File for inspection from 1:00 pm EDT, Wednesday, October 5, 1977 (and equivalent local times) at the libraries of the Geological Survey of Canada; at the Dept. of Mines Resources, 1914 Hamilton Street, Regina, and the Mining Recorder's offices at Creighton, La Ronge and Uranium City, Saskatchewan; at the Ontario Dept. of Natural Resources, and at the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources Public Service Centre, 6th Floor, Whitney Block, Toronto, Ontario.
Copies of Open File 488 may be obtained at user's expense by application to K.G. Campbell Corporation, 880 Wellington Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1R 6K7. The field observations and analytical data from which the material was prepared are also available in digital form at the user's expense, enquiries should be directed to: The Director, Computer Science Centre, Dept. of Energy, Mines and Resources, 588 Booth Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0E4.
