Mountain Pine Beetle Project, Quaternary component, 2007-2010
Project Description
The Bonaparte Lake map area (NTS 92P) lies within the Interior Plateau of south-central British Columbia, within an area severely impacted by mountain pine beetle infestation. The objective of this project is to stimulate mineral exploration in the area by identifying new exploration targets to diversify the severely impacted forestry-based economy of the region. Regional till sampling and surficial geology mapping were carried out in 2007 and 2008.
The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open Files 6047 (gold grains) and 6440 (geochemistry, heavy minerals).
During the 2008 field season, a till and vegetation survey was conducted near the Gibraltar Mine (NTS 93B/9) to test the effectiveness of these sampling media at detecting mineralization in areas where bedrock is covered with glacial sediments. The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 6755.
