Project Metadata

As part of the Southampton Island Integrated Geoscience Project (SIIG), a geochemical and indicator mineral reconnaissance survey of surficial sediments for Southampton Island was carried out in 2007.  The goals are:

• to acquire new compositional data;
• make them available to the public; and
• help in assessing the mineral potential of the island;

The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 6078.

Funding was jointly provided by the Geological Survey of Canada and the Canada-Nunavut Geoscience Office, using funding from the Government of Nunavut and Indian and Northern Affairs and the Strategic Initiatives in Northern Economic Development.
