Project Description

Project Cadillac was undertaken in June 1971 by the Quebec Department of Natural Resources, with the financial support of ARDA (Agricultural and Rural Development).  Its main purpose was to reduce unemployment caused by the closing down of molybdenite mines in the Cadillac area, while doing valuable work for mineral exploration.

Licenced miners, working in crews of 4, sampled till under the varved clays of the former glacial lake Barlow-Ojibway, within the Rouyn-Val-d’Or mining belt.  Over 7000 samples were collected across parts of NTS 31M/14-16, 32D/3-6, 11-14, 32D/1-3, 6-11, 13-16, 32E/3 and 32F/4.

Project Funding

Funding was provided by the Ministère des Richesses naturelles du Québec with the financial support of ARDA (Agricultural and Rural Development program).  The ARDA program was a cost-sharing agreement with the federal Government that began in 1963.
