Southwest New Brunswick till surveys, 2001-2003
Project Description
Till samples were collected in southwestern New Brunswick in the Rollingdam and McDougall Lake map areas in 2001. The data are published in New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources and Energy Open File 2002-4. In the Rollingdam area, follow-up work was done in 2002. The primary objective of the Rollingdam survey was to attempt to recognize patterns of glacial dispersal by studying component geochemical and lithological distribution within the area’s cover till. This extended study of the Rollingdam area was published in New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources and Energy Open File 2003-2.
Till sampling surveys in the St. Stephen map area and the Fredericton Junction map area of southwest New Brunswick were carried out in 2002. The data are published in New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources and Energy Open Files 2003-12 (St. Stephen) and 2003-13 (Fredericton Junction).
Till samples were collected in the St. George map area of southwest New Brunswick in 2003. Field methodology and site spacing were influenced by the presence of abundant glaciofluvial and outwash deposits as well as by subsequent marine activity. This emphasizes the importance of recognizing surficial deposits of different genesis. The data are published in New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources Open File 2004-5.
