The regional lake sediment and water survey for northern Ontario (NTS 42D and 42E South) was conducted during the summer of 1977.

This report presents analytical and statistical data for gold and 25 other elements obtained by re-analyzing lake sediments from 915 sites, collected at an average density of one sample per 13.7 km². Original analytical data selected from Open File 506 (published 1978) for 13 variables in sediments, and uranium, fluoride, and pH values in lake waters are also included in this report.

Acknowledgements:

The reconnaissance surveys were managed by the Geological Survey of Canada in conjunction with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources under the terms of the Canada - Ontario Agreement on a Uranium Reconnaissance Program. Fisheries and Environment Canada provided funds for the determination of mercury. The reanalysis program was undertaken under the Canada - Ontario Mineral Development Agreement (1985-1990).

E.H.W. Hornbrook directed the original survey (1977) and the reanalysis program (1990).

P.W.B. Friske coordinated the activities of contract and Geological Survey of Canada staff (1990).
