Laboratory Description
Barringer Research / Barringer Magenta / Barringer Laboratories
The corporate history of this company is difficult to unravel, and the following notes may contain some errors.
Barringer Research Ltd was created in 1961 by A.R. (Tony) Barringer (1925-2009), and Selco Exploration (the Canadian exploration branch of the British company Selection Trust). Richard (Dick) Clews (c1922-1984) joined the company in 1962.
Barringer Research went public in 1967. In 1977, Tony Barringer moved to Colorado, and moved the company’s headquarters there from Toronto. The U.S branch of the company operated as “Barringer Research Inc”, and the Canadian branch operated as “Barringer Magenta Ltd”, with offices in Rexdale, Ontario, Calgary, Alberta and Whitehorse, Yukon. Clews served as President of Barringer Magenta.
Barringer Technologies Inc (previously Barringer Resources Inc) was created as a holding company for the different operating groups.
Barringer Laboratories Inc was organized under Delaware law in December 1988 to conduct the laboratory business previously conducted by Barringer Technologies Inc, with laboratories in Denver and Reno.
The Canadian subsidiary was renamed from Barringer Magenta to Barringer Laboratories Ltd (also in 1988?), with a laboratory located in Mississauga.
The Canadian subsidiary was sold in 1992 to Philip Environmental Inc of Hamilton, Ontario.
Barringer Technologies Inc was acquired by Smiths Group PLC in 2001.
In 2010, Barringer Laboratories Inc is a private company located in Golden, Colorado, with an estimated 100 employees.
