Survey Description


Between July 16 th and September 30 th, 2004, Hornby Bay Exploration Ltd. collected 39 till samples from the Coppermine and East claims blocks in the eastern portion of the remnant Hornby Bay Sandstone Basin of Nunavut and Northwest Territories.  The claims blocks collectively cover parts of NTS map sheets 86J, 86K and 86O.  They are situated in the vicinity of the Big Bend area of the Coppermine River to the south of the September Mountains.  In general, sampling for the survey was bounded by latitudes 66°35’N and 67°15N and longitudes 114°55’W and 116°25’W.  The data can be found in Nunavut Assessment Report 084858.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS map sheets 86J (Hepburn Lake), 86K (Sloan River) and 86O (Coppermine), the Coppermine claims block in western Nunavut.  It is located in the Big Bend area of the Coppermine River, south of the September Mountains.

  • Covers parts of NTS 86J/10 (untitled), /11 (Muskox Lakes), /14 (Stanbridge lake) and /15 (untitled), the East claims block in western Nunavut.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 79 km northwest of Takijuq Lake and 57 km west-southwest of the Big Bend area of the Coppermine River.
