Survey Description


Helicopter-supported sample collection was carried out in the Gogama area, central Ontario during the summer of 1987.  Lake sediment and water samples were collected at an average density of one sample per 13 km2 throughout the 20,900 km2 survey area.  Sample site duplicate samples were routinely collected in each analytical block of twenty samples.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 1640.

This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.

Geographic Extent

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers all of NTS 21P and most of the western half of 31M in central Ontario.  It is bounded to the south by latitude 47°, to the north by latitude 48°, to the west by longitude 82° and to the east by longitude 79°20'.  The Ontario-Quebec border falls in the easternmost part of 31M but no samples were taken in Quebec.  There is an area north and west of Lake Timiskaming that is covered in thick clay where no samples were taken.
