Survey Description


Helicopter-supported sample collection was carried out during the summer of 1987 in the Makkovik area in eastern Labrador.  Stream and lake sediment and water samples were collected in this infill survey at an average density of 1 sample per 3 to 5 km2 throughout the 1,200 km2 survey area.  Sample site duplicate samples were routinely collected in each analytical block of twenty samples.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 1637 and Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy Open File LAB 768.

This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers south central part of NTS 13O and north central part of 13J in eastern Labrador.  Bounded to the NE by the Labrador Sea, to the south by latitude 54°51' and to the west by longitude 59°30'.
