Survey Description


Helicopter-supported lake sediment and water sampling was carried out in northern Labrador during the summer of 1985.  Samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 13 km 2.  Sample site duplicate samples were routinely collected in each analytical block of twenty samples.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 1210 and Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy Open File LAB 695.

In 1992, the samples were reanalysed by INAA and published in GSC Open File 2691 along with the original data.

Data from this survey is part of a compilation published in GSC Open File 8348 (geochemical atlas).

This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS sheets 14E and F, the southern half of 14L, and portions on the eastern edge of 24H and 24I which lie inside Labrador.  The region is bounded to the west by the Labrador-Quebec border and to the east by the Labrador Sea.  It covers all of Labrador between 57°N and 58°30’N.
