Survey Description


During the summer of 1984, helicopter-supported lake sediment and water sampling was carried out in southeast Labrador.  Samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 13 km2 throughout the 19 800 km2 survey area.  Sample site duplicate samples were routinely collected in each analytical block of twenty samples.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 1102 and Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy Open File LAB 689.

The samples were reanalysed by INAA and republished as GSC Open File 2790 along with the original data.

This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 13A and 13D, the northwest corner of 2M and the northeast corner of 12P in southeastern Labrador.  The southwestern boundary marks the Labrador-Quebec border.  The area is bounded to the southeast by the Strait of Belle Isle and to the east by the Labrador Sea.
